Job Description
Post Title: Biology Tutor Adult Education Teacher

Location: Any suitable location within the City of Wolverhampton
Job Purpose and Role
 To plan, prepare and deliver high quality teaching, learning and assessment.
 To support students to achieve the best possible outcomes on their courses.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
 To attend enrolment, assess students and provide appropriate information & advice.
 To arrive punctually, be in the classroom ready to teach at least 10 minutes before the start of the lesson and complete register as students arrive.
 To induct students into their programmes, promote the right attitudes to learning and complete relevant documentation.
 To promote regular attendance and punctuality with students, and address absence issues.
 To carry out appropriate initial and diagnostic assessments with students and use these in planning.
 To identify and meet individual students' needs, including additional support needs and on occasion include prompting and encouraging good personal care.
 To use Individual Learning Plans with students to negotiate and regularly review challenging and meaningful targets and actively involve students in this process.
 To plan the course by devising or modifying a Scheme of Work to suit students' needs.
 To prepare thoroughly for teaching sessions, ensuring clear learning outcomes and that all students are engaged, challenged and supported.
 To use a variety of teaching strategies to promote active, collaborative and independent learning, and peer and self-assessment.
 To develop and use a range of high quality resources, including ILT and Moodle, to support learning outcomes and promote student engagement.
 To use assessment for learning strategies during sessions to monitor student understanding and progress, and to adapt sessions responsively to maximise student achievement.
 To mark or assess students' work and give students specific, positive and forward-looking verbal and written feedback on what they have done well and what they need to do to improve.
 To develop students' ICT, English and Maths skills as appropriate for the course and to signpost students to ICT, English and maths provision where appropriate.
 To complete all documentation related to accreditation in a timely manner in the format required.
 To foster good relations between different groups, challenge discrimination and promote diversity.
 To take responsibility for the Health and Safety of students, to comply with Health and Safety requirements within the work area and report any concerns to the staff responsible for the site.
 To carry out Course Evaluation, Progression and Destination Surveys with students.
 To provide information and advice to students before, during and at the end of the course, including information on progression routes.
 To attend induction, staff meetings and training as required.
 To ensure the Course File is kept up to date and to the required standards.
 To follow AEW processes for the withdrawal and transfer of students.
 To leave teaching areas in a suitable condition for the next class.
 To comply with and promote AEW's policies and procedures at all times. Key policies include OTLA Policy, Mentoring Policy, staff Development Policy, Exam Policy, Marking Policy, and SAR procedure.
 To check AEW email regularly for information.
 To participate in staff development and undertake further CPD arising from OTLA Action Plan.
 To attend key staff meetings.
 To participate in the AEW Mentoring scheme if required.
 To undertake additional tasks and responsibilities, appropriate to the grade, possibly at short notice, that are necessary for AEW to meet its obligations to students, the SFA or WCC, which may be reasonably required
 To act in accordance with the Council's Constitution and other Codes of Conduct.
 To participate in staff development, appraisal and training as appropriate, including continuous professional development.
 To comply with the Council's agreed policies and procedures including but not limited to Health and Safety, and Equal Opportunities Policies, the Data Protection Act, Freedom of Information Act, Financial Management Regulations and other relevant Council and Government Regulations, Directives and City wide priorities.
 To undertake any other tasks, duties and responsibilities as directed and appropriate to the grade and role of the post subject to any reasonable adjustments under the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 as incorporated into the Equality Act 2010.
 To participate in the wider development of the service and contribute to service improvement as required.

Special Conditions
 Annual leave should not normally be taken during main enrolment periods or term time.
 Some duties must be undertaken on site whilst others, with the agreement of the line manager, can be undertaken elsewhere.
 Time, location of work and work base may change to respond to the needs of the Service.
 Evening and weekend work may be required.
 Travel between sites required for which a casual car user's mileage allowance will be paid. (Travel between home and work not included).
 DBS check required if the member of staff is allocated work based in a school or a children's centre, will be working with adults who are vulnerable, or is a member of the safeguarding team.
