POST DESIGNATION:Insurance and Claims Officer
RESPONSIBLE TO:Insurance and Claims Lead
JOB PURPOSE AND ROLE:
Within the Corporate Assurance service to support the Corporate Assurance Manager in the delivery of the insurance programme and claims handling functions.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1The post holder has the following principal areas of responsibility:-
1.1To assist in the management of the council's insurance arrangements including the placement of insurance cover, payment of accounts and the maintenance of policy and insurance records
1.2 To handle claims received from
a) third parties
b) service groups
c) locally managed schools
1.3 Provide specialist advice and consultancy on insurance and liability issues to meet the specific needs of members, directors, senior managers and officers in the effective discharge of their duties and requirements for service delivery
1.4 To identify risk management issues arising from insurance claims and assist in the analysis of such risks
1.5To assist in the maintenance and development of systems to support the service
1.6To assist in the delivery of seminars/training on insurance issues
1.7To assist in the production of reports/information
2.General Duties for Post Holders
2.1.To supervise staff within the service as required
2.2.To undertake ad hoc assignments and analyses as necessary in support of the wider functions and responsibilities of the service.
2.3.To contribute to the development and delivering of training to service department managers and their support staff.
2.4.To act in accordance with the Council's constitution and other Codes of Conduct.
2.5.To participate in staff developments, appraisal and training as appropriate, including continuous professional development.
2.6.To comply with the Council's agreed policies and procedures including but not limited to Health and Safety, and Equal Opportunities Policies, the Data Protections Act, Freedom of Information Act, Financial Management Regulations and other relevant Council and Government Regulations, Directives and City Wide priorities.
2.7.To undertake any other tasks, duties and responsibilities as directed and appropriate to the grade and role of the post subject to any reasonable adjustments under the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 as incorporated into the Equality Act 2010.
2.8.To participate in the wider development of the service and contribute to service improvement as required.
