About the Bank

The Scottish National Investment Bank is a new development investment bank for Scotland with a vision to catalyse change by investing in a fairer, sustainable and ambitious Scotland. The Bank is a mission-led patient capital investor, with long-term missions set for it by the Scottish Parliament. Its missions have been set by the Scottish Parliament and include:

The Bank will invest in businesses and projects connected to Scotland that support the delivery of its missions in Scotland.

The Bank will be underpinned by £2bn of capital from the Scottish Government, over 10 years.

As a development investment bank, the Bank will seek to enhance and expand the financial investment options available to business and projects across Scotland. In addition to the capital the Bank has committed from the Scottish Government, the Bank will be seeking to crowd-in investment from other lenders and institutional investors into the Scottish economy.

The Bank's team will work flexibly from home and our hub offices that we will establish in Glasgow and Edinburgh. Currently the Bank has one hub office in central Edinburgh.
Candidates seeking to work 4 or 5 days per week will be considered for this role.
This will initially be a temporary role for a period of 12 months, while the long term operational management resource needs of the Bank are considered.

Role Purpose

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Executive Director of Operations will organise and oversee the daily operations of the Bank with particular focus on Information / Digital Technology and Facilities Management. The post-holder will be responsible for ensuring the Bank's operations are well-coordinated and productive by aligning operational activities with the Bank's business plan through effective planning and monitoring of the day to day running of the organisation. In addition, the role holder will be responsible for the ongoing project management of the Bank's post-launch establishment projects and associated project management resource.
The area of responsibility for this role is very wide and thus requires thorough knowledge of various corporate functions and processes. The ideal candidate must be competent and able to plan many kinds of operational activities. The role holder will be an excellent leader who can discover the most efficient ways to run the Bank's operations.
The goal is to safeguard and augment the efficiency of the Bank's operations to facilitate rapid growth and long-term success.

Key Responsibilities

*Liaise with the Bank's Executive Committee members to make decisions for operational activities and set and manage operational objectives.

*Take responsibility and initiative in the efficient day to day running of business operations including monitoring and facilitating progress against business plan KPI's.

*Provide strategic oversight and guidance to Information Technology and Facilities related processes and coordinate resource allocation across departments of responsibility.

*Provide effective team management and project management duties including overseeing project completion, timelines and costs.

*Regularly evaluate the efficiency of business procedures according to organisational objectives, identify and apply continuous improvement opportunities.

*Revise and/or formulate policies and promote their implementation and adoption across the Bank.

*Manage relationships/agreements with external partners/vendors as required.

*Evaluate overall performance by gathering, analysing and interpreting data and metrics for submission to the Executive Committee, Board of Directors and its committees.

*Ensure that the Bank runs with legality and conformity in its day to day operations and facilities.

Key Requirements

*Proven experience as Executive Director of Operations, Chief Operating Officer or equivalent position.

*Excellent, proven organisational and leadership abilities.

*Outstanding communication and people skills.

*Flexible attitude to work and willingness and ability to support other teams in the Bank on an operational basis, as required.

*Knowledge of financial services organisational structures and FCA regulatory requirements is essential.

*In depth knowledge of diverse business functions and principles (e.g. Information Technology and Facilities Management)

*Complex project management and organisation set-up experience would be highly regarded.

*Hands on attitude that is commensurate with a start-up business.

*BSc / BA in Business Administration or relevant professional experience.
