As a result, we are looking to recruit a Lead Information Systems Engineer: Data Curation on a 24-month Fixed Term Contract to work within the Information and Communications Technology Department.

ICT Intro
The Information and Communications Technology Department (ICT) has primary responsibility for service technical infrastructure and support. ICT has staff at a number of locations throughout the Organisation. The key functions of ICT are to provide and support such systems required by the staff of Public Health England (PHE), and to provide the technical infrastructure to enable all forms of corporate communication, both within the Organisation and between the Organisation and its customers and stakeholders.

Job Summary
To be responsible to the ICT Team Manager Hosting and Data Curation for the methodological and technological data-management workstreams, providing technical support for on-going management of data through its life-cycle, support the ever-growing demand for data interoperability, support the automation of large scale high-performance data storage and processing systems. You'll work closely with internal Data Architect, SQL and storage engineers to provide a holistic approach in implementing a full end to end data life-cycle management solution,


Main Duties & Responsibilities
*Hosting and Data Curation, lead the strategic drive in architecting Enterprise data solutions.
*Lead the planning, design, implementation and management tasks for the organisation's Data Curation solutions
*Support large-scale data migration programs, working with the PHE's application owners and data scientists.
*Overall curation of platform data stores from a performance and reliability and security perspective
*Design, plan, implement and create policies and procedures for data security to ensure highest level of standards are met.
*Provide technical leadership for data security initiatives, working closely with security colleagues and ensuring that security remains a primary objective for PHE ICT

Essential Skills
*Educated to degree level in relevant subject or equivalent level of experience of working at a similar level in specialist area
*Must have previous experience of managing systems for a large user base
*Good knowledge and experience in sysadmin tasks on Linux
*Posix filesystems, EXT, XFS, ZFS
*Linux/open-source based NAS and SAN technologies, NFS, iSCSI
*Knowledge in scripting and centralised configuration technologies such as: Bash, Python, Ansible
*Good knowledge and experience in installing, configuring and managing relational database systems such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB and SQL language
*Technical documentation authoring skills
