Release and Environments Manager - Basingstoke - Remote working currently
£65,000 - £70,000 + bonus + perm benefits
A leading insurance organisation based in Basingstoke is currently recruiting for a Release and Environments Manager to be responsible for ensuring there is a standardised and controlled release process within the Delivery Lifecycle. The successful candidate will ensure that effective and efficient release pipeline is in place and all necessary environments are available to support the delivery teams. The Release and Environments Manager will be expected to remove any blockers so that any new deliveries can move through the model with little manual intervention which in turn will maximise the use of the DevOps and Continues integration/delivery practices.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
*Agreeing a release management strategy with Delivery Managers and Business Owners.
*Forward plan the release schedules and cycles across the programme.
*Own the release and deployment process to ensure that software is effectively tested and accepted into service correctly.
*Ensuring adequate checks are in place and completed ahead of any release into production ensuring a smooth handover into Service Management.
*Ensuring environments are standardised and available for each stage of the development lifecycle, avoiding clashes and downtime for the delivery teams.
*Help define CI/CD pathways, tooling and processes.
*Facilitating post release analysis for continuous improvement.
*Challenge development and infrastructure teams to deliver automated builds that require no manual intervention for releases.
*Removes obstacles and roadblocks that impact the performance of the team.
*Demonstrates creativity and innovation in applying solutions for the benefit of the customer/stakeholder; promotes same within team.
*Continually looking for opportunities to improve the release process
*Coordinate activities of engineers to automate the setup and configuration of non-production environments.
*The Manager will also be responsible for managing a small team of DevOps x4

Job Specifications
*Software development or technology background with strong knowledge of relevant technical disciplines
*Has the passion and drive to continually improve how we deliver releases into production with a focus on reducing manual overhead and simplifying what we do today
*Demonstrable expertise of the previous release and/or project management experience
*Deep understanding of cloud platforms, open-source and SaaS
*Experienced in Agile Delivery
*Experience in working in a DevOps environment
*Experience of working with audit requirements, change management and control procedures
*Experience with the software delivery lifecycle and best practices involving source code management, application build, test and deployment
*Hands-on experience designing DevOps engineering tooling, CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation/orchestration processes (e.g. Jenkins, Teamcity, Octopus Deploy, Bamboo)
*Knowledge and experience using Containers
*Knowledge of Infrastructure-as-Code, experience using tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation
*Experience of Scripting/Configuration-as-Code e.g. Chef, Puppet, Ansible
*Experience of configuring and using monitoring tools (e.g. Splunk, Nagios, GrayLog)
*A proactive approach to learning and keeping abreast with the latest developments in Cloud and DevOps
