A financial services provider is looking for an experienced Backend Developer to join their ranks. Remote work is a available for the right person, however occasional visits to the office will be required.

As a Backend Developer, and along with the wider development team, you will help drive several key projects to the next level. You'll be expected to have solid commercial development experience and a drive to use the latest technologies to create exciting and innovative products.

It's an exciting time to join the company, which has many IT transformation and development projects in the pipeline and an opportunity to help further shape the company's features and services.


The Backend Developer role will include the following duties and responsibilities:

*Designing and building new features and services
*Developing new REST APIs
*Writing unit tests to ensure high code coverage
*Reviewing team members code
*Suggesting and investigating alternative technologies to solve business issues
*Monitoring traffic and reviewing server performance
*Training and sharing knowledge with the team
*Maintaining the database systems
*Developing the Continuous Integration system
*Create and maintain server configurations and provisioning
*Debugging and resolving bugs and performance issues


We are looking for someone with a strong background in backend development, with a minimum of 3-4 years' experience with the following skills:

*Solid understanding of modern PHP development.
*Experience with PHP frameworks; preferably Symfony or Laravel
*Commercial experience with version control in a team environment
*Ability to approach existing code, grasp its purpose and make changes confidently
*Experience with writing unit & integration tests
*Knowledge of coding standards and their application
*Experience with LAMP stack architecture, particularly in a cloud environment
*Experience with Docker & Ansible
*Continuous integration
*Mentoring a team
*Security conscious approach to development
*Understanding of caching and cache strategies

Desirable but not essential:

*Elasticsearch/Elastic Stack

Although this is a largely remote role, you will be expected to be able to attend the office once or twice per week when required, so please consider your location and the ease of getting to the York/Harrogate area.
