*Contribute to the provision of a proactive, intelligence-driven and outcome-focused strategic communications service for planned campaigns and issues, including organisational change projects.
*Advise and influence colleagues on the best communications approach for planned issues - including attending project management meetings - and put this approach into action using the Strategic Communications model of achieving awareness, understanding, engagement and behavioural change.
*Use professional knowledge and experience to proactively, confidently and quickly suggest the best communications approach for planned issues with long-term consequences in often challenging environments.
*Personally deliver excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders; for example by reliably attending and providing advice at internal meetings in the post-holder's portfolio area, facilitating media requests and enquiries for projects in the post-holder's portfolio, and encouraging and incorporating public feedback.
*Make use of 'direct-to-audience' and digital communications, ensuring projects delivered are not overly-reliant on traditional methods such as printed material or news releases.
*Liaise with other organisations for multi-agency issues that fall in your portfolio area, such as working with local authorities to tackle anti-social behaviour or domestic abuse.
*Effectively brief and manage external suppliers of communications services, such as design agencies, to ensure innovation and strategic fit when they are used for projects managed by the post-holder. Use research tools and techniques to identify the best tactics for projects delivered and carry out evaluation to evidence the impact of communications activity.
*Manage media interactions with the Force, including proactive news releases for projects managed and providing resilience to the News team at times of high demand, including assisting media conferences or events and chaperoning representatives on attachments to teams or operations.
*Assist in the delivery of engagement training, particularly on local engagement, to colleagues outside the department in line with the Force's 'Traffic Light system' in conjunction with the Learning and Development Unit.
