Community Safety and Enforcement Service, prevent coordinator.

The post holder will be responsible for writing, researching and implementing Prevent strategies in the council. A fundamental aspect of this role will be to develop and maintain close working relationships with the Home Office and Metropolitan Police Service as well as other key stakeholders.

The post-holder will be expected to personally drive the delivery of local Prevent activity, driving regional and cross borough Prevent activity. Ensuring comprehensive delivery and reporting both locally and regionally.


* Lead on the management and delivery of Redbridge's Prevent objectives and projects.

* Devising, leading and being responsible for complex projects at a multi-agency level. Determining the resources required and setting time/cost limits for their completion. Planning, monitoring and steering those projects and advise and applying corrective action, when required.

* To identify opportunities to bid for external funding and subsequently developing, drafting and submitting bids.

* To actively seek out and engage with any and all communities potentially affected by radicalisation in Redbridge.

* Take responsibility for running the Prevent Strategy Board (chaired by Chief Community Safety & Enforcement Officer). Where necessary deputise for the Prevent Strategy Group Chair.

* Work at a strategic and operational level with Metropolitan Police Service (SO15), borough police and other client-facing services to establish effective partnerships to deliver CHANNEL; a multi-agency panel to reduce the risk of radicalisation and violent and non-violent extremism of vulnerable individuals.

* Develop new and innovative ways of working, recognising and promoting the positive benefit of change to improve services and achieve goals which includes enhancing cross border engagement.

Skills and Experience required

* Educated to degree level or equivalent

* Professional background in discipline related to community safety, community development or substance misuse

* Experience of working on the Prevent agenda

* Experience of working with community groups, particularly those relevant to the Prevent agenda

* Experience of working in a high risk and highly politicised environment

* Experience of breaking new ground in an agenda at a local and national level

* Experience in paid employment or through volunteering in the majority of the following areas:

a)Community development and capacity building;
b)Community safety;
c)Drugs and alcohol;
d)Youth work.

* Detailed knowledge of the Governments Counter Terrorism Strategy and Contest

* Knowledge of the criminal justice system

* Detailed knowledge of effective project management methodology and practices

* A clear understanding of budget making process and financial regulations and controls

* Excellent political awareness
